Electric Vehicles

Day by day petrol price hike might have made us at least think about an Electric Vehicle. Most of us are really confused whether to own one or not due to many reasons like higher price, maintenance, lesser range, availability of charging stations etc. It is actually a technological wonder. Let us now see what are the advantages, challenges as well as disadvantages of owning an EV.

EVs came into existence in mid-19th century. Electricity was only one among the preferred method of vehicle propulsion. Later, modern IC Engines dominated the sector. In 21st Century, highly efficient EVs which were capable of replacing IC engines were produced. The main advantage was its emission-less engines. Increased focus in renewable energy and to reduce climatic changes caused due to carbon emission was the main agenda for the EV developers. Nowadays, electric engines are capable enough to produce an equivalent power which an IC Engine can generate. Premium automotive brands like Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, McLaren, Tesla is the main game changers in this field. Also Indian companies like Tata, Pravaig is also producing best EVs in the segment. Talking about Pravaig; it is an automotive company manufacturing cars and renting them instead of selling, which makes us not to bother about maintenance, range, repairs, etc. One of the top Performance Car brand Lamborghini is also planning to electrify their vehicles by 2030. The SUV segment ruler Hummer is under production which runs in electricity. These facts make us realize the potential this field holds.

Even though it is such a great alternative for ordinary IC Engines, every good things has got a bad side. If each one of us switches to EV, whole power system would collapse due to massive power consumption. Also availability of charging stations is also less in countries like India, which is a big matter of concern. Batteries of an electric vehicle need to be changed within a stipulated time period which would cost at least 40-45% of the vehicles’ price. But in coming years, advancement in this sector is highly expected which would kill all of its demerits.

EV is the future for sure. It has got the potential to make Earth a better place to live.
